Asthma Symptom in Child

Asthma symptom in child is a headache to parents nowadays and is a very serious issue today. A quarter of all children population in urban areas is suffering from asthma. This makes the issue even more severe and prevalant. New pharmacological agents are being developed and continuous research is being carried out in a large scale but no real breakthrough has been achived to tackle the problem of asthma in child. Asthma symptom in child is known to be the most common reason for kids missing school. Apart from giving the feeling of disablement and morbidity it can sometimes result in fatality when severe.

An Important Public Health Problem

Although factors responsible for the causes of asthma symptom in child is yet to be found out it is an accepted fact that asthma in child is a vital public health issue. Great consideration is given to the hereditary or genetic factor of asthma in child. More than half of the child showing asthma symptoms like wheezing due to viral infection in the lungs will never show any such symptoms of asthma after their preschool years or teen age.

According to an estimate, in the year 2004, in the population of child below the age of 18 more than four million had reported an asthma attack and many other cases of such attacks and asthma conditions went unreported.The parent and the child need to understand the facts about asthma and its treatment to have a better control over the asthma symptoms. This makes asthma in child a big cause of concern.

A common asthma symptom in child includes frequent coughs and showing signs of respiratory infections, namely, bronchitis or pneumonia. If a child has coughs after some energy consuming activity like running or even crying it can be a case of asthma in child. As condition is known to be worsen at night recurrent coungs at night is also common among child with asthma.

Coughs which sound like rattling accompanied by fast breathing also indicate RTO asthma symptom in child in case of infants. Such infants may also have frequent bronchitis, chest cold and pneumonia episodes. Unexplained irritation caused by discomfort and tightness in chest may also be experienced by young child in many cases.

Allergies can be a major cause of asthma symptom in child. Harmless materials such as molds, pollens, animal dander, dust and some kind of food may cause allergies in some child. A good example would be of a kid that gets wheezing in spring and summer seasons. These are the seasons with high pollen counts in the air. Hence it will be advisable to keep the kid indoors during these seasons. Knowledge of asthma triggers can be instrumental in preventing asthma symptoms.
