Childhood Asthma Symptoms - A Personal Experience
I didn't know what childhood asthma symptoms are. I was just like all other children. Going to school, playing in the recess and being active at all time were a part of my life just like any other kid. But as soon as I got to fifth grade I started to realize that playing games with other children was becoming more difficult for me with every passing day. It was difficult breathing when I tried to run. I would wheeze trying to climb stairs to reach my classroom. Even activities like chasing our pet became a Herculean task. Fearing something would be wrong with me my mother wisely took me to a doctor. I didn't know these are childhood asthma symptoms until I was diagnosed with asthma by my doctor. At that moment, I knew my life was going to change from there on. The Effects Of Childhood Asthma Symptoms These childhood asthma symptoms didn't worry me much when I was diagnosed of asthma. Taking the puff from the inhaler when I encountered problems breathing will be enough, I thought. Sadly, my hopes were far away from reality. Being a kid I couldn't comprehend the severity of my situation at all. The understanding that childhood asthma symptoms was going to keep me away from sprinting and running was beyond me. Normal daily activities could be fatal is not something you realize at the age of ten. I didn't realize that any allergic reaction would make me end up in a hospital. Ignorance is bliss, but unfortunately not in this case. The realization dawned upon me in the seventh grade when I had a severe attack which was life-threatening. Running in lovely looking, freshly cut green grass could trigger my childhood asthma symptom didn't ever come in the faintest imagination of my mind. Before I could realize anything I was down on the ground and could barely breathe. The fear that crept into me for not being able to breathe is beyond description. The severity of my situation sunk into me after that scary incident. Hopping two stairs at a time and dashing to the ground were the things of the past for me. Depression crept into me as I limited myself to only the basic activities. I understood the value of each breath of air. Taking My Life Back From Childhood Asthma Symptoms Childhood asthma became my excuse and refuge to avoid anything. I started staying indoors, TV was my best friend and I did not participate in PE; all accounted to childhood asthma symptoms. It again became an excuse for my skipping the prom to stay home. My asthma posed to be more life threatening than it is supposed to be and it was so because I perceived it to be so. I became lonely as my friends didn't like staying with me. Childhood asthma had confined my life within my room and it was not suppose to be so. My mother's death in June of 1999 was the last straw on the camels back for me. She was my only hope throughout my depression period. It is then that I realized that my asthma and my mother were the two factors that were fueling my depression. It's unfortunate that for me to realize that it needed a parent's death. Soon I started treatment for my depression and consulted a doctor to make an asthma treatment plan. My childhood had been wasted due to childhood asthma symptoms only because I allowed it to do so. I decided not to carry on with this destructive way of living. People fail to realize that childhood asthma not only creates physical problems for the child but also affects the kid mentally and could be very damaging to the kid. If you have a child experiencing childhood asthma symptoms, finding someone who can provide proper guidance and care becomes imperative. Don't let the childhood asthma become as excuse for the kid to give up on childhood, help the kid make it a reason to live and enjoy the childhood even more.
